Dr. Berman is an Associate Professor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with a joint appointment at The Hebrew University Faculty of Medicine in Jerusalem, Israel.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology, both from The University of California Berkeley, where he worked on the grammar of gene regulatory sequences in the Drosophila genome. Dr. Berman’s postdoctoral research at The University of Southern California involved the development of new methods for DNA methylation sequencing to understand epigenetic changes in tumors, and integrative cancer genomics as part of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) project. His lab is focused on the development of new methods to unlock the “grammar” of human DNA methylation profiles, with the goal of identifying better methylation-based biomarkers for Precision Medicine and providing open-source software tools for the cancer research community. As a Principal Investigator in the National Cancer Institute’s Genomic Data Analysis Network (GDAN), Dr. Berman’s group provides epigenetic data analysis and integration for TCGA and other NCI initiatives.
