Dr. Cyriac Kandoth

Senior Computational Biologist,
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre
NYC, USA

Cyriac leads a team of bioinformatics engineers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), New York, who build software infrastructure for computational biologists and provide consultancy to oncologists that use NGS in their research. His team designs workflows for sequence alignment, variant calling, false-positive filtering, annotation, and clinical interpretation. For TCGA, he chaired the analysis working group in Uveal melanoma, and characterized effects of formalin fixation in exome-sequence data. Before MSK, Cyriac was a staff scientist at Washington University in St Louis (WashU), where he led analyses on TCGA uterine cancer exome sequencing, and managed somatic mutation curation and analyses for the first TCGA Pan-Cancer effort, which led to the discovery of novel biomarkers for cancer subtyping in Kandoth et al., Nature 502, 333–339 (2013). He has a passion for automation and reproducible science. In his spare time, Cyriac enjoys rock climbing, badminton, and tinkering with recent technology.
