Dr. Bushra Ateeq is an Associate Professor and a Senior Fellow of the DBT/ Wellcome Trust India Alliance at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India. Her research interest involves exploration of the genetic and epigenetic changes that initiate cancer and its progression. She is also focusing on the understanding the molecular events that drive cancer metastases and resistance towards chemotherapeutic drugs. 

Dr. Ateeq is the recipient of the highest Indian science award, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Medical Sciences (2020). She has also received several other prestigious awards, Ramachandran-National Bioscience Award (2021), OPPI-Scientist Award (2021), CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute Award (2020), ICMR-Basanti Devi Amir Chand Prize in Biomedical Sciences (2019), Sayeeda Begum Woman Scientist Prize (2019) from Jamia Hamdard, and CNR Rao Faculty Award (2018) from IIT Kanpur for her excellence in research. She is an Elected Fellow (2021) of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) and the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore (IASc).

Dr. Ateeq serves as a co-Editor-in-Chief of the Translational Oncology (Elsevier), and is also a member of the editorial board on the Frontiers in Oncology, Frontiers in Genetics, and the Indian J. Biochemistry and Biophysics.
