Dr Ahmed is a Consultant Breast Surgeon in Tata Medical Center, Kolkatta, India. She completed her undergraduate education in Medical College, Calcutta. She then went to England she obained an FRCS (England) after working in Bristol in 1991. She continued higher surgical training gaining a research degree (MD, Sheffield, 1999) and then the FRCS (General Surgery) in 2000. She moved back to work as surgeon in 2001. She moved to Tata Medical Centre in September 2011 where she set up the breast oncosurgical services. This busy unit now treats around 800 new breast cancers each year, with around 600 patients having surgery. They have a well-established Multidisciplinary Team and all patients receive protocol based treatment. Regular meetings are held to ensure incorporation of new evidence into the protocol. Her current interests include treatment of younger women with breast cancer, and broadening awareness and education about breast cancer.
