Professor L.S.Shashidhara is a Professor (Biology) at the Indian Institute of Sciences Education and Research (IISER), Pune. His research work in Cancer Biology, Genetics, Cell and Developmental Biology has generated numerous publications and book chapters to his credit. Currently, he serves as the President of International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS) and Vice-President of Indian National Science Academy (INSA). Recently, he was elected as a fellow of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO).
Professor Shashidhara is recipient of many prestigious awards such as the J.C. Bose National Fellowship, S.S. Bhatnagar Award and DAE-SRC Outstanding Research Award. He is a fellow of many of reputed scientific bodies in India namely National Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and Indian Academy of Science. He is an Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Genetics and serves on many top-level advisory committees of the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. After receiving his Ph.D. and a 2-year post-doctoral stint from the University of Cambridge, UK. Before joining IISER Pune, he served as senior scientist at NBCS, Bangalore and CCMB, Hyderabad.
