CTCR is a joint initiative of Prashanti Cancer Care Mission (PCCM), Pune and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune, supported by Bajaj Auto Ltd. This Centre has been established in 2018 with an aim to undertake high-impact translational research that will identify solutions to problems that onco-clinicians face in the Indian context and thus, improve cancer treatment. In addition, the main agenda of this Centre is to integrate various activities related to cancer education, training and research and thereby, increase the national capacity for translational research on cancer in India.

The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), USA

TCGA is collaboration between the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) that has generated comprehensive, multi-dimensional maps of the key genomic changes in 33 types of cancer. The TCGA dataset, comprising more than two petabytes of multi-omics data such as whole genome sequencing, copy number variation, transcriptome and methylome, has been made publicly available, and this multi-omics information helps the cancer research community to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. In the past decade, all major discoveries in cancer research have at least some reference to the TCGA data mining.
