Dr. Mahmood-uz-jahan received his MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He then accomplished MBGPH (Master of Bioethics and Global Public Health) at American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN) Arizona, USA. He started his early career as a residential surgeon at the Department of Urology, BSMMU. Then he joined as a Medical Officer at the Department of Pediatrics, Maternal & Child Health Training Institute, Azimpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Now, he is working as Director of Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC), Mohakhali, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Besides, he is the Project Director of Establishment of Bangamata National Cellular and Molecular Research Center (BNCMRC); a visionary project of Bangladesh Medical Research Council.

Dr. Jahan has made a good contribution in health research through his active participation in research projects. His contribution in science is recognized by several high impact papers from reputed publishers/association. He is a member of steering committee of Asia Pacific National Ethics Committee Network and life member of Bangladesh bio-ethics society. He enriched his academic and leadership excellence by adopting training programs from reputed institutes like Harvard Medical School (USA), AIMS University (Malaysia), Mahidol University (Thailand), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and so on. He attended a significant number of meetings/scientific sessions held in USA, Newzeland, Switzerland, Korea, Senegal and Thailand as a representative of Bangladesh. 

At 2010, he joined as a Deputy Director at Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC). Later on, he became the acting Director of BMRC from 2013-2016. Since 2016 he has been working as a Director of BMRC. He holds member secretary position of different committees of BMRC including Scientific Review Committee, National Research Ethics Committee (NREC), Research Activity Committee, Executive Committee, Educational Activities Committee where he coordinates the activities of the committees and help in policy making regarding health-related issues.
